FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: My guitar/strings are
very hard to play. I have to push very far, why is that?
A:
Your guitar needs a set-up. Bring it in and we’ll make it play great.
Q: My amp knobs crackle and
it randomly cuts out sometimes, is it fixable?
A:
It probably needs a good servicing and once over: “cleaning pots, jacks,
switches, tube pins/sockets, ribbon/pin connectors and effects loops”.
Q: My $50 distortion pedal
died, can you fix it?
A:
Is it worth fixing? I’d say a top notch pedal is worth the effort, mass
produced pedal maybe not. We have many requests for repair where the bill
exceeds the value of the item.
Q: Will you work on my
digital ______?
A:
No. Not unless it’s a mechanical problem such as a jack, pot or
connection. Surface mount components/nano technology is generally not
servicable.
Q: It’s Wednesday and I have
a gig this weekend, can you fix my amp by Friday?
A:
You can request a “rush job” (40% rate increase) pending the tech’s
approval/availability to work “overtime”.
Q: I just had my ’65 tube
amp in last month and now it has problems again?
A:
Classic amps often develop multiple problems. Old parts do fail.
It’s often best to hit everything in one shot, while it’s in the shop. We
can’t warranty your vintage amp’s components, just the work we do accordingly
so do not cut corners.
Q: What are the most recent
tube amp mods you’ve done?
A: Peavey 5150 II to 5150
original, Silverface to Blackface ‘70s Fender, Bogen Tube PA into
Marshally-Plexi-ish Guitar Amp, adjustable bias mods, many Fender Blues JR.
tweaks, Traynor-to-Plexi, Marshall DSL/TSL board updates, tube-mic-pre rebuilds.
Q: What’s your connection to
ANALOG MAN?
A: We are his guy when it comes
to tape echo repair, he gets many requests and refers his clients to ship here
to Omaha.
Q: Why don't you repair anything/everything?
A: It's challenging to be jack of all trades. There are often manufacturer limitations such as proprietary parts, confidentiality of service manuals, etc. I have limited space here therefore must pick and choose my battles. My philosophy is to do what I do the best I can vs. jack of all trades the trade.
